Latest architectural movie done at 3Devotion:
It combines filmed footage with 3D animation. Done, as always, with Cinema 4D, rendered in V-Ray and pimped in After Effects.
Here you have some behind the scene information including some shot breakdowns:
And here are some stills:
I’m proud to present you our latest architecture reel. All done with Maxon Cinema 4D, rendered with Vray and enhanced with Adobe After Effects CS5.
Recently, in my company 3Devotion we were facing the challenge to create together with Studio Fränk Weber and agency Dechmann Communication a complex photomontage combining 3D surrounding and costumes with a real photo shooting of 2 kids. The idea was to design a not to dominant, yet futuristic catwalk as a setting to present the actors. As their costumes had to be special as well, the decision was taken to roughly model a dummy with a 3D costume that was then refined in Photoshop. Thanks to Maxon Cinema’s high resolution and multilayer 32-bit rendering and the new deformers of the R12 release which helped a lot, we could give the photo studio, which took care of the compositing, enough flexibility to easily enhance the result and to do their final tweaks according to their taste and the art director’s preferences.
Quick tutorial about how to enhance 3D architectural renderings by applying the so called “film look” in After Effects CS5 without the use of any plugins.
For this simple setup I applied several effects to my neutral Cinema 4D rendering in post: chromatic aberration, motion blur, depth of field, lens distortion, vignette, curves, vibrance, glow & film grain.

The original 3D animation was done by 3Devotion for a real estate project of HouseConcept.

Interview with Olivier Koos about the mission of a DOP, the tricks to achieve stunning results on low budget productions and a quick overview of a basic HDSLR set.

As this blog is about learning more about the world of film-making, VFX and CGI I’ll have several interviews with people working in the industry.
The plan is to cover key roles such as director, producer, director of photography, art director, cutter, animator, sound engineer and more. These pros will explain to us what their job consists of and what’s really important from their point of view to get a high quality result without a blockbuster’s budget.

Lost places, the rebel’s secret film locations.
This is an interview with David Horbach, a guy I consider to be an expert in finding and exploring lost places.
We are talking about these special places while evaluating their pros and cons for filmmakers … and show some nice footage meanwhile.

Director: Claude Kongs
Co-director (shooting): Raoul Nadalet
Production & Post-production: Digital Studio – lead artist David Horbach
Shooting & Sound: Espera Production
DOP: Olivier Koos – Gaffer: Serge Benassutti
Conclusion: I am very happy with the result considering the tight budget and the fact that we had to shoot during winter.
HDSLR was definately the way to go for as the flexibility, the low costs and the shallow depth of field combined with very good low light abilities is a winning combination. Special thanks go out to the LAR Marketing Team and the one-man-does-it-all José.
